In hardware terms, the release versions SCPH-1001 and SCPH-1002 were really SCPH-3x0x series machines (some internal changes and no S-Video port) - later, when the new GPU+SGRAM was introduced the Japanese model number changed to SCPH-5000, but the NTSC:U/C and PAL model numbers didn't. The thing is that machines in the configuration that would correspond to this already exist in large numbers and are marked SCPH-1001 and SCPH-1002 - because neither SCEA or SCEE routinely changed their part numbers with hardware revisions. ![]() I have seen the SCPH-5000 and the SCPH-5003, and they are both based on the later (SGRAM based) PU-8 board, with the SCPH-5003 having an English boot ROM and a 220V power supply (but still a NTSC-J mechacon).
